Wasatch Crest with MattVD and Jun:

Days like today are why I love running. This is one of the best runs in the Wasatch and also part of the Wasatch 100 course. We met at 4:50 am at the BCC park n ride. It was cold at the start and I had my very dim headlamp that I got out of a Happy Meal while Jun was sporting his lamp that would light up half a football field. Luckily for Van Bail as he forgot his.

Jun was very strong and ran all of the hills. I ran most of the first steep climb, but hiked the steeper sections and VanB was somewhere in the middle. We decided to summit Scott Hill and Desolation peaks to add some flavor and the sunrise on top of Scott Hill did not disappoint. We added in a few dirty jokes for the heck-of-it as we made our way back to the Crest trail. At that point I lead out and Jun was right behind me. We both ran all of the rolling hills and the steeper climb up to the lookout just before Desolation peak where we stopped to take a gel and wait for VB.

I love Desolation peak. The views are incredible up there. We lingered a while just chatting and enjoying the morning. From there we scrambled back down the slope to the Crest trail again and then had a sweet run by the lake and then out the Mill D trail. Jun got ahead and I stopped for a quick break and then had a nice fast run back to the car. The pace was in the 6's and 7's for the next three miles and then in the lower 8's to the finish. I absolutely loved it. I was feeling strong and with the scenery and good music in my ipod I was in heaven. Today was a fantastic run. Great company, amazing views, incredible trail, a lot of laughs and a few peaks. It doesn't get much better than this.

Haha, headlamp you got out of a Happy Meal. Classic. Awesome morning.

Great run! You hear that Wasatch 100 coming..? Wasatch Crest.. I hear that's awesome! Is that the section between Brighton and MillCreek? You're going to rock this race..

From Scott Wesemann on Wed, Aug 10, 2011 at 14:37:01 from 205.158.160.209

Dude, after running about 40 miles of the course over the last few weeks I'm pretty scared actually.

The Crest is from Guardsman Pass (a few miles above Brighton) to Desolation Lake on the ridge crest between SL/Summit counties. It doesn't quite go to Millcreek, but it is in that direction.

Ha ha, happy meal. Love that trail for sure.

I'd be worried if you weren't a little scared!! :)

I love watching the sun rise on that trail. So awesome! You'll be ready for Wasatch... Just take it one step at a time.

Oh yeah! This is what running's all about!

Nice job tearing it up in the mountains this summer.

Sounds like the perfect kind of heaven of you!

Now get a better head lamp before the race, or borrow Craig's! We do not want you fallin' on your butt.

That is my most favorite trail. I need to start getting up earlier - there is no reason I shouldn't try to have an adventure before work. Thanks for the motivation!

Glad you guys got one in like that. Sounded perfect.

Great report, made we want to be there. I used my headlight tonight, after my run, to grill hamburgers.

My wife ran with me tonight, I just about stepped on a rattlesnake on the trail. For some reason my wife said it was a good turn around point. She hates snakes.

Thanks guys- I do have a better headlamp (although Jun might not agree) but it is heavier than the Happy Meal light, so I went with the smaller one. It actualy isn't too bad if it has fresh batteries.

Scott: Got any wipes?

From jun on Thu, Aug 11, 2011 at 17:57:00 from 205.158.160.209

Don't get me wrong, it isn't like either Scott or Matt have a headlamp - they both have one. It's just that neither of them brought theirs. And the one Scott did have was pathetic. I'm just having a good time at your expense Scotty.
