I ran Lake Mountain this morning with MatthewVH. We met in Lehi at 5:30... oh wait, I was there at 5:30 and Matt showed up a bit later. The trail was covered in snow and we started running right at 6:00 am. It was really cold, but after a few minutes we both heated up. We ran for the first mile and then it starts to get steep, so we slowed to a fast hike. There were several ATV tracks to follow, but just after a mile it was only a single ATV track.

It was lightly snowing, but it wasn't much of anything. Just a lot of ice crystals falling in the air. The hike up was ok, but after about 3 miles the ATV track stopped, and the only thing left was a snowmobile track. Now we were sinking in the snow with every step and it became much more difficult to keep a fast pace. About .5 from the top we just ran out of time. We both needed to get down because of work and with all of the snow it was going to take us quite a bit more time to get up to the summit so we turned around. I hate not getting to the top, but there wasn't much more we could do.

The run down was tough because the track was so narrow and it was hard to stay in it. After about two miles it opened up and became much easier and we cruised in at a pretty good pace. Total time 2:15. Elevation gain: 2400 ft.

Nice elevation gain. Sorry you didn't reach the top.

Don't feel bad you didn't get to the top. Sometimes weather just won't allow and it's all good.

Nice story Scott. You left out the part where you hopped onto the back of that snowmobile driven by that husky fella. I went all the way to the summit and didn't see you again until you got dropped off at the car, looking all sweaty and flushed.

Hmmm...maybe he reached the top of something else.

Whoaaa ahahaha this thread has gotten a trifle frisky!

From jun on Tue, Jan 04, 2011 at 15:39:54 from 66.239.250.209

Scott didn't mention a few of the successes he did have this morning. Matt was successful in having his mile 1 poo; Scott's headlamp was certainly dim as he hasn't put new batteries in since August; Scott certainly tried to eat a Gu and gagged; Matt fell down 3 times while running down.

I really don't know if any of these are true, but based on past track records, I'm pretty certain they are.

From Scott Wesemann on Tue, Jan 04, 2011 at 16:28:54 from 66.239.250.209

Wow, what happened to this thread? Matt, as I recall it was more like this: A mile in we noticed this skinny fellow with kind of thick sandy hair running behind us with a picnic basket. He yelled for Matt, so we stopped and waited. He convinced Matt that a small break would be good for him, so he agreed and I told Matt I would meet him on the way down.

On my way down I was almost back to the car and I noticed a blanket laid out with Matt and friend lying down. The two of them were enjoying a glass of red wine and whispering sweet nothings. I hated to break it up, but I had to get to work.

Oh and Jun- Whattya clairvoyant??

From MatthewVH on Tue, Jan 04, 2011 at 17:00:19 from 69.27.9.106

Wow, that cold air really makes a mess of short-term memory. What is more likely? that a dude showed up on a snowmobile and to take Scott on a magical morning romp or that some guy with a picnic basket showed up and spread a blanket out like it is summertime down at Liberty Park?

Maybe you two should quit dancing around the man-love you have for each other and just admit it. You both went into the woods in the dark of night and came out happier men. It's really ok, we all support you.

LOL-

It was a New Year miracle: There was no mile 1 poo today. And no falls. How I wish the snow was as soft last week when I did dive onto hard ice and pebbles last week.

Thanks Bec.

I'd like to comment, but I think the thread has gone too far off track for me to say anything more than - nice job (with whichever story may be true!).
