I did not want to get up when my alarm went off at 4:40, but I am glad I did. I met Matt in Millcreek Canyon and we ran the Pipeline trail, which is one of my favorite runs in the Wasatch. Matt started out FAST but after about a half mile we settled into a comfortable 8:40 pace.

We stopped to take the usual one mile break and the mosquitoes were horrible, but once we got moving again they weren't an issue. There was a pretty good wind that would really blow whenever we rounded a corner on the outsides of the canyon. At times it was really strong, but luckily it wasn't bad once we rounded the corners and ran back to the inside of the canyon.

We stopped at the lookout point to have a gel and then both of us put the headphones on and had a nice cruise back to the car. my legs felt a bit heavy today and my achilles was a touch tight, but no pain. Matt also took a little tumble at about mile 7. Nothing serious, just some hamburger hand. 9.3 miles 1:24 total time.

I have been craving a Dairy Queen cone ever since. Haha! Nice run pal.

Great run.. I need to get on the Trails again!

From Kelli on Wed, Jun 29, 2011 at 23:17:24 from 71.219.92.225

You guys treat falling like it is mandatory. It still freaks me out!!!

Nice run, glad the achilles felt good. Are you done with the meds?

Who you calling champ, chump?

From Jim Kern on Thu, Jun 30, 2011 at 00:57:54 from 216.59.193.114

I thought falling was a rite of passage for trail runners. It was a proud moment last December in Moab when my wife did her first face plant (once the blood was stopped and cleaned up of course).

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 30, 2011 at 12:08:46 from 71.219.92.225

I suppose it is, but it still freaks me out! I can tell most trail runners have no fear.

From jun on Thu, Jun 30, 2011 at 12:59:54 from 205.158.160.209

Kelli, one thing you should consider when trail running is wearing thing leather gloves (fingerless preferably). Meltzer does it, as do many others as a means of protecting their hands while running in case of a fall. I truly believe its value is more mental than physical, although the obvious protective benefits are definitely there. Just something to think about.

And good run boys.

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 30, 2011 at 14:51:40 from 71.219.92.225

That would make my hands so hot!! And I love the scar I have from my winter trail running fall. Maybe I should wear padded shorts, knee pads, a helmet....

From Scott Wesemann on Thu, Jun 30, 2011 at 15:29:43 from 66.239.250.209

Kelli- I'm done with the meds. It seemed to help some. It is weird, I don't have any pain at all and very little soreness, but I can feel that it isn't 100% yet. It just has a dull ache a few times a day.

I would love to watch you run with a helmet and pads. Ha!

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 30, 2011 at 20:01:26 from 71.219.92.225

It might slow me down a bit!

I am glad to hear you ave no pain! YEAH! The meds did not work for me, the therapy worked some, but now that I have tried to get my running back to where it was before, PAIN. I am frustrated. I still have those advil patches that I paid a fortune for. The PT did not want me using any anti-inflammatory meds for 2 weeks. SO, starting this weekend, I am going to try them again. SUCKS.

Nice run in the burley early hours Scott! Gald the Achilles is feeling better.

Kelli, sorry your Achilles is still an issue, I fell for you, can't tell you how frustrating mine has been! I HATE falling on the trail. Even a little bobble or slideout just freaks me out, so you are not alone in your distain.

From Scott Wesemann on Fri, Jul 01, 2011 at 12:04:01 from 66.239.250.209

Kelli- That is the WORST! I totally feel for you. This past month has been so frustrating. I tested mine out today on Mt. Wire (WARNING don't read the report) :)

The more I am learning about achilles issues the more I worry. It is very tough to get these things to heal up. Good luck with it.

You know all of your warnings only MADE me go read it immediately, right? I have no self control.
