Ave Twin Peaks with Dorsimus and Jsh:

Awesome day! Met the fellas at the Capitol building for a fun run in the snow to the Ave Twin peaks. This is one of my favorite training runs. I woke up to several fresh inches of snow at my house and the drive to the cap was nasty, so I knew we would probably be breaking more trail. It pretty much snowed on us the entire day, but we had a total blast laughing and running in the fresh snow. We let Dorsimus break trail most of the way and I pulled off a few sneaky moves to keep it that way.

Once we hit the ridge it went from quite a bit of snow to a TON of snow and we were now breaking trail in knee deep powder the rest of the way to the top. We saw several deer and elk, including two nice bucks right off the trail. So awesome. It took much longer than we planned to the summit and it was pretty tough, but we were laughing and having a blast.

The run down had to be faster and we picked it up some and when we made it out of the deep powder we were able to keep a consistent pace the rest of the way out. At one point someone started singing "Time of my Life" from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, and within minutes all three of us were chiming in right on key, funny and I'm sure the chick with the dog on snowshoes enjoyed it too. Awesome day.

Jun- We will be singing that today.

what peaks did you summit? or do you have garmin data? new to the area, and I run behind the capitol sometimes. although, at this point, i generally get lost back there and then just try to figure out a way back...

From Scott Wesemann on Mon, Dec 31, 2012 at 14:36:03 from 174.253.184.39

Je10- They are called the Avenue Twin Peaks. I don't have the Garmin data, but Jun probably does. You just go up City Creek Canyon and jump on the BST and go east. If you know where Little Black Mountain is, these are the twin bumps on the ridge that goes East to Little Black. It is a sweet run, one of my faves. You should join us sometime.

I know where the trailhead is... but everytime I run out there I end up somewhere different. :) Yep, it'd be fun to join you guys sometime, let me know. I do early AM runs or late nights.

je10 - we are the kings of early AM runs, count us in. In fact, plan on us for Wednesday or Thursday this week. We like to meet around 5 - 5:30am, does that work for you?

From je10 on Mon, Dec 31, 2012 at 16:03:46 from 98.202.132.255

Let's plan on wednesday, 5am is great. Where at?

From jun on Mon, Dec 31, 2012 at 16:32:10 from 174.27.207.7

Ooooo, I'm in! Let's do the Ave Twins. We can meet at the capitol building, on the northeast corner parking or we could start at the trailhead at the U-turn on City Creek Rd. Capitol building is 10 miles, the other is 8. You choose based on time.

From Scott Wesemann on Mon, Dec 31, 2012 at 16:54:35 from 174.253.184.39

I'm in.

From jun on Mon, Dec 31, 2012 at 19:37:26 from 174.27.207.7

Oh crap, wait. I can't go Wednesday, I have to take my son to weights in the morning. Sorry, I forgot what the days were. How about Thursday?

From Dorsimus on Mon, Dec 31, 2012 at 19:55:20 from 67.2.113.149

That was a lot of fun, glad you snagged some pics. I had a blast.

je10-Here's this run, slow in the snow! :)

And here's the garmin data of this run from the trailhead on dry ground. Sometimes we take a slightly different route coming down (there are a few options)

Thursday works fine. 5am at the capitol then?

From je10 on Mon, Dec 31, 2012 at 22:22:50 from 98.202.132.255

Thanks @Dorsimus. I was able to export the Garmin data to my watch as a map. Unfortunately, I really do get lost that easily. :)

From Scott Wesemann on Tue, Jan 01, 2013 at 16:14:18 from 97.126.193.57

Yes, 5:00 am at the Capitol on Thursday works. Should be a good day.

From Dorsimus on Tue, Jan 01, 2013 at 16:38:32 from 67.2.113.149

I will plan on it for now as well.
