I wanted to test out my achilles today, so I went up Mt. Wire after work. I took it easy and I was surprised at how good everything felt. The weather was perfect and I enjoyed the dry trails and wild flowers. I made it up in 44 minutes and there was a couple on the summit that were surprised to see me running up the summit ridge. They asked me my time and couldn't believe it. It took them two hours. We chatted for a few minutes and then I headed down.

The run down was fun and my achilles felt good. I had a smile on my face and my pace picked up. I finished in 1:11:11 and my achilles still felt good, so I was really happy about that, but it didn't last. By time I got home it was sore and it just got worse from there. I iced it which seemed to help, but it was really sore again after I woke up this morning (Sat) and after icing it a few more times today it is still sore. I guess I am injured and I'll probably be taking some time off to rest this so my whole summer isn't ruined.

Sorry about the Achilles Scott. Take care of it early and it will calm down quick. Nice run out there though.

:( :( :( That doesn't sound good. I hope it just takes a couple days of rest. I think I will try Wire this week. Don't worry.. I'll try not to rub it in! :)

I think I am going to take the whole week off from running. It really sucks, but there really isn't a lot I can do about it.

Hey Bryce, I would like to do some cross training this week without hurting my achilles. Any recommendations?

Steam- You should do Wire. It is awesome up there right now.

Sorry about the stupid injury, but I think you are being smart about it. When you are better and I'm done with UVM we shall scale Wire. It may take me two hours :) but, I want to do it!

Scott, sorry buddy! I know too well how you feel! For me cycling never bothered it a bit, but I know it depends on where the pain is, some say cycling is a no no. I would say anything low impact. Eliptical, swimming, for me hiking was even ok as long as I didn't push the hills hard. Work on your calves, stretch like crazy, roll them hard, work on trigger points how ever you can. Loosen those babies up and it will help tons I bet. If it continues hit Kelli up for the ASTYM guy she is seeing down your way. Also combine with ART therapy. Rest is good, but keep moving. Bryce- Thanks for the tips. I think I will try the bike or the elliptical tonight just to see. I know it was probably my calves and hammies that were really sore that caused this. I need to stretch more and not push so much when I'm tight and sore.
